What 'local' means
Instead of using AI on someone else's site, you download the model and run it on your own PC. Once downloaded it works offline, sends nothing to the internet and asks for no subscriptions. It is the same idea as open source models (Llama, Mistral, Qwen, DeepSeek), only they run at your place.

Why it is worth it
Your data never leaves your computer. Zero cloud, zero tracking: the right choice for confidential documents and sensitive work.
No message cap, no expiring credits. Once you download the model, you use it as much as you want without paying anything.
No connection required. The AI stays available even on a plane, on the road or where there is no network.
Online, chatbots have many guardrails. Locally you can use the “unlocked” (uncensored) versions of the open models: less censorship, more freedom for research, creative writing and legitimate edge cases. In return, the responsibility shifts to you.
